Day 1: Cuiabá - Northern Pantanal

Your English speaking guide will welcome you at the airport. Transfer to the Curicaca Lodge.

After driving for more than 100 km on a paved road, cross the Pocone city and then, your journey will continue on to Transpantaneira up to 25 km, where you will find the Curicaca Lodge near a beautiful river. Along the way, you will have the possibility to make many stops to observe and photograph the fauna. It is one of the most famous destination in Pantanal because of its location and rich environment.

Dinner (drinks not included) and night at the lodge.

Day 2: Northern Pantanal

A bit before dawn, you will go on a boat trip down the river, which is the best condition to observe the fauna. After breakfast, activities will go on upstream, this time on a motor boat. More frequently, you'll be able to observe many different species such as belted kingfishers, herons, egrets, cormorants, snakebirds, great curassows, roseate spoonbills, wood storks and many caimans, capybaras and giant otters.

Lunch at the pousada, followed by some down time before taking the road again.

In the afternoonm you will leave for the Boat Hotel Jacaré, located on the other side of Transpantaneira. This Boat Hotel has 5 cabins, all equipped with air conditioning. Capacity of 10 people.

Day 3: Northern Pantanal

Your stay on the boat will be spent looking for jaguars, exploring from top to bottom the banks of the river Cuiaba and some of its tributaries upstream. Your chances of seeing the animal will be enhanced thanks to your experienced guide who knows all the best places for sighting.

Day 4: Northern Pantanal

Half-day on the boat looking for jaguars. Lunch included.

In the afternoon (between 03:00 and 03:30pm), reach kilometer 67 on the Transpantaneira, where is located the Fazenda Sta Tereza. It has a swimming-pool suitable for children, 10 rooms with air conditioning and ventilation. The dining room recalls the warm living-room of old fazendas and offer a spectacular view of nature during meals. On the way, you can make various stops to admire and photograph the fauna.

Main attractions:
- Trip on the Pixaim river and walk around the forest. During the dry season, specially when the level of the water has dropped drastically (June to November), it is come to see giant otters in the region.

Day 5: Northern Pantanal

Before dawn, go down the river on a boat for a better visit of nature. Back for breakfast.

After breakfast, observation hike in a gallery forest where you will meet many animals, primates, rodents, carnivores, marsupials, as well as many bird species. Back for lunch.

In the afternoon, back on the river to observe and photograph numerous species. Back at sunset.

Day 6: Northern Pantanal

Morning activities. Lunch and then leave for the Pouso Alegre Farm, at kilometer 33 of the Transpantaneira. The hotel has 11 rooms with air conditioning and ventilation. You can go on a horse ride to discover the 11,000 hectares of the farm.

Main attractions: every morning, around the buildings of the Fazenda, hyacinth macaws like to show off in front of visitors.

Day 7: Northern Pantanal - Cuiabá - São Luís

After breakfast, an amazing horse ride will take you to discover the large spaces and most beautiful landscapes of the farm. Back before lunch.

Lunch at the Pouso Alegre farm followed by some down time.

After lunch, leave for Cuiaba (133km).

Pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

Night at the pousada Portas da Amazônia (breakfast included).

Day 8: São Luís - Barreirinhas - Lençóis Maranhenses - Barreirinhas

Private transport to Barreirinhas, a quiet town sprayed by the waters of the Río Preguiças.

Go and discover the lagunas and dunes of the surrounding area. After an hour in a 4WD on rough sandy tracks, you will reach the desert. There everyone can stroll freely to discovery the landscape hidden behind each dune and enjoy a refreshing bath.

Return to Barreirinhas in the afternoon.

An english speaking guide will accompany you during the day.

Day 9: Barreirinhas - Atins


In the morning, board a private motorboat to follow the Río Preguiças until you reach the Atlantic Coast. The river shores appear in their full splendor: mangrove, igarapés (waterways), buritis, açaizeiros (a native palm tree in the rainforests of northern Brazil), coconut trees, tucunzeiros and the never very far colorful fauna: herons, kingfishers and if you are lucky, guarás (a striking red ibis typical of this area).

As you will approach the coastline, the dunes will start to appear. At the Rio’s mouth, you will have a break in the minuscule and picturesque village of Caburé. The river flows along one side of the village while, on the other side of the dune, the ocean spreads over miles of deserted beaches.
Then, continue to Atins, on the other side of the river (30 min).

Day 10: Atins - Lençóis Maranhenses - Atins

Transfer by 4WD to the desert door, 4 km from town (20 min or 11/2hrs by foot). An isolated restaurant where you can taste the best shrimps of the area, will be your base camp for your half day trip in the desert (lunch not included).

Enjoy the visit of the Lençois with its 100 km of dunes and lagoons. They seem at hand reach although you can only get there after a few minutes walking (and up to a hour depending of the lagoon visited).

Return to Atins after 4 hours spent in the desert.

Day 11: Atins - Parnaíba

In the morning, transfer by private motorboat to Caburé. From there a 4WD will drive you to Tutoia. The track will takes you successively from deserted beaches to virgin dunes, and you will cross a few modest fishing villages appearing to have been through the last 5 centuries without changes: here are one of those places where you can feel the so particular atmosphere of "end of the world"...

After a 2-hours drive, arrive in Tutoia, the entrance to the delta das Américas, where you will board a private motorboat for a good half-day cruise. The delta, including sections of the States of Piaui and of Maranhão, spreads over 2700 square kilometers and includes 85 islands. It offers a natural setting equal in complexity to those encountered on the Nile or the Mekong. The same ecosystem contains mixed contrasting landscapes: rivers, lagoons, gigantic dunes, wetlands, deserted white sand beaches and their diverse type of mangroves. The fauna in all its diversity is not far behind: crocodiles, monkeys, turtles and crabs cohabitate with different bird species, (notably herons and guarás, the striking red ibises typical of this area).

Day 12: Parnaíba - Jericoacoara

In the morning, private transfer from Parnaíba to Camocim (120 km). Starting from Camocim, the 4x4 will be your mean of transport.

The departure time from Camocim to Jericoacoara depends on the tides as you will have to get over the Coreau River (flowing to the ocean) in a barge, before progressing on a succession of deserted beaches, each one more sublime than the other, until Tatajuba. You will cross tiny fishing villages, before reaching Tatajuba in the middle of the afternoon.

Around you, 20 miles of white sand dunes and coconut trees will seduce you for a rest. Second crossing on a barge at Guriú beach, a fishermen’s settlement located between Tatajuba and Jericoacoara. You will finally reach Jericoacoara, where you will be welcomed by cows strolling in total freedom in the sandy streets of this quiet village.

Actually, not so quiet: for those who want to party like only Brazilians know how, with the help of large amounts of cachaça and to the sound of the forró, Jericoacoara is a perfect place…

Day 13: Jericoacoara

In the morning, departure in a dune buggy for an excursion around Jericoacoara. 2 passengers with their luggage + a Portuguese-speaking driver by vehicle (no English-speaking guide). After a swim in the fresh waters of the lagoa Azul, you will have a lunch break near the lagoa Paraíso. In the afternoon, you will continue on to the "pedra furada" (the pierced stone), and the "pedra do frade" (the monk’s stone). Return to Jericoacoara at the end of the day.

Departure in a private vehicle for Fortaleza (4 ½ to 5-hour drive - 320 km - without guide). Transfer to the airport : flight from Fortaleza (flight time and number to be confirmed).
