TRAVEL BOOK

Day 1: Campo Grande - Southern Pantanal

Pick up at the airport and private transfer to the Barra Mansa Lodge.

Set up at the Barra Mansa Hotel. During your stay at Pantanal, your local private guide will plan with you the excursions you'll be doing to allow you to see as many things as possible. Indeed, depending on the season some animals migrate.

Among the activities we offer are:

- Walk at dawn around the hotel. During that walk you can admire small animals and local vegetation.

- Photographic safari in an all terrain vehicle. You will be able to discover places further away from the hotel as well as a large variety of species.

- Canoeing on the Rio Negro. It will allow you to discover many different aquatic birds. It is a perfect transportation to listen to all the sounds of this ecosystem.

- Motor boat trip on the Rio Negro, the most well preserved river of Pantanal (there are no villages on the river bank). You can stop at many of the different beaches to go for a swim.

- Night walk: a great opportunity to admire the nocturnal species, such as the caimans' lightened eyes.

- Horse ride: the most traditional activity to discover the Pantanal. It is the best way to reach places you cannot approach by foot or car.

- Take part in the traditional activities and lifestyle of the pantaneiro (the fazenda/farm takes care of the planning)

- Bird sighting: surucuá, colhereiro, urutau, arara azul, tucano, periquito, jacutinga, maçarico, garça, tuiuiú, socó, curicaca... More than 650 bird species live together in Pantanal.

A 40-minute hike in the primary forest, during which you may have the chance to spot a few toucans or parrots, will take you to the shores of the river da Prata.

Equipped of a wetsuit, a mask and a snorkel (provided on location - included), you will enter into the incredibly clear water to let yourselves be carried by the current over a few miles of a peaceful "flotation" in the middle of a multicolored fauna and flora. This site where you will feel the proximity and harmony with the nature, is surprisingly poorly known. However, it is one of the most impressive in the country… Indulge an excellent buffet for a recovery lunch.

On the way back towards Bonito, in the afternoon, you will stop at Buraco das Araras, a 200-meter deep and almost circular cave. Hundreds of red, blue or multicolored Aras (large parrots), living on the inaccessible cliffs of this geological curiosity, fly in all directions, a few meters away from the visitors. Their strident calls pierce the atmosphere and seem to be aimed at annoying a lost alligator which would have arrived by accident at the bottom of the hole, where he would live a prisoner, forever…

Return to Bonito at the end of the day.

Note: It is not possible to do this excursion as a private trip but the sizes of the groups, accompanied by specialized guides, are always reasonable (8 people max).
